Scope & Objectives
RETAINERGY is a joint Indian and Swedish initiative. The partners behind the project all have a solid competence in the area of waste management and incineration. They are also very well connected with the key players in the sector, both in India and in Europe, e.g., technology suppliers, engineering companies, operators, universities, public institutions and research institutes.

The aim of this initiative is to support the healthcare sector in India to sustainably utilize energy resources that are currently being wasted when incinerating medical waste products.
The objective is to develop a commercially viable solution for retaining the energy generated in the incineration process. By installing technologies for recovering the energy in the flue gasses it will be possible to generate power, heat, and cooling, thereby creating new sources of revenues for operators of waste incineration installations.
Short Term - Bed Test
The solution will be applied and tested in a waste incineration currently in operation in Delhi.
If meeting the technical, regulatory and commercial requirements the solution will be further deployed in similar installations in India and at a later stage in neighbouring countries.
Furthermore, in the project we will feed information in support of the national policymaking on waste management from hospitals in India. There is a public feedback round every 6 years (open in 2024) to ensure best available technologies are identified and mandated in Indian waste management.
Medium Term - Scaling up
Examples on direct and indirect benefits from installing solutions to retain redundant energy from incineration processes.
